Tutoring Success Story

“Rebecca” was a senior who entered our Tutoring Program in late October 2018. Her social worker reported that she had slept in class and simply refused to do work assignments. Rebecca was thinking about dropping out rather than finishing her Astronomy class, which would have delayed her graduation. Through consistent work with her tutor, she made up missed assignments and got the last needed science credit for her diploma! Despite beginning the 2nd semester with a D, she rallied with help from the TFFC tutoring program to earn an A- in the 4th grading period and a final grade of C- for the year. She is a very proud high school graduate and we could not be more proud of her! Click on the image of our Annual Report to learn more!

Introducing the F.O.C.U.S Program!

In the 2018-2019 Academic Year, TFFC introduced The F.O.C.U.S. Program. Deleyah Holly, one of the members of the Tutoring Program, had a mission “to be the voice of the whole child where their voice has been muted in elementary education and to create relationships that allow children to trust adults to learn from them.” As our Tutoring Program is designed to help Foster Youth perform on-par with their non-Foster peers, we are proud to have added F.O.C.U.S. to our Program!

The F.O.C.U.S. (Foster Our Children’s Unlimited Success) Program works with Foster Youth in Kindergarten through 6th Grade with a focal point of bridging the academic gap for Foster Care students by implementing consistent language arts tutoring with a focus on Word Study.

Though the program is still in its Initial Phase, Deleyah has already found great success with the Foster Youth that are a part of Academic Year 1.

Bridging the Academic Gap for Foster Youth can make all the difference in preventing them from becoming disconnected youth, dropping out of school and having higher rates of illiteracy than their non-Foster Youth peers.

Foster Youth deserve Unlimited Success. We thank Deleyah and her tutors for their hard work and great results in the F.O.C.U.S. Program!

“It’s a fun way to work with kids. Because they’re motivated by fun, it works!” – Deleyah Holly
