I recently had the privilege of attending the grand opening of the new office space for Norfolk’s Department of Human Services (DHS), and what an inspiring event it was! As I stepped into the sleek, modern building, I was filled with excitement about the positive changes this new space will bring to our community.
Community Connection
The event was a wonderful gathering of local officials, community leaders, and residents. It was heartening to see so many people come together to celebrate this significant milestone. Remarks from key speakers, including Mayor Kenny Alexander highlighted the importance of NDHS’s mission and the role this new office will play in enhancing community services.
Innovative Features
Walking through the office, I was impressed by the family focussed facilities that have been incorporated into the design. From the ball pit, to comfortable seating, every detail seems to have been carefully considered to promote a welcoming environment in their new family visitation space. Families with children in care, can now build trust and connection as a family unit in a comfortable and welcoming environment. Not only can they play and connect, they can also make meals and bond over eating together.
Another standout feature is drive up window, designed to provide more immediate assistance and information to those seeking help. It’s clear that this new office is not just a workplace; it’s a lifeline for many.
A Bright Future
In closing, I am thrilled to see Norfolk DHS taking such proactive steps to enhance its services for families and children in care. The new office is more than just a building; it’s a beacon of hope for our community. I look forward to witnessing the positive impact this space will have in the years to come. Congratulations to the entire Norfolk DHS team on this monumental achievement!
